TEST ORDERING: Fill out test request form fully & legibly. CBC, concurrent PBF, referrer's contact information and detailed medical history are also required (bone marrow history form can be shared). Relevant history includes suspected diagnosis & any relevant investigation details (lab, imaging) as applicable. Specify the exact sample type(s) provided, anatomic site & laterality (e.g. left posterior superior iliac spine) and the fixative used. CONTAINER/ PRESERVATIVE Freshly prepared (<1 hour from collection), well spread, labeled bone marrow aspirate slides. Freshly prepared (<1 hour from collection), well spread, labeled peripheral blood film slides. Clinical Utility

Variable e.g. assess unexplained cytopenias (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia), unexplained cytoses (polycythemia, leukocytosis, thrombocytosis), suspected malignancy or infiltration (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, metastatic disease), pyrexia of unknown origin, infectious diseases (e.g. leishmaniasis), B symptoms (unintentional weight loss, drenching night sweats, fever) etc.
