Test Requirements

Bone marrow in sodium heparin vacutainer. Clinical history/ indication required. Specific form to be filled before sending out.

Clinical Utility

Karyotyping bone marrow samples helps diagnose and/ or monitor and/ or prognosticate a variety of hematological disorders (leukemias, lymphomas, myelodysplastic syndromes) and guide cancer treatment by identifying specific chromosomal abnormalities. This cytogenetic analysis is essential for understanding genetic contributions to diseases and providing targeted medical care. Detects numerical & structural chromosomal abnormalities within the assay's limit of detection. A normal result does not completely exclude genetic disorders e.g. single gene disorders, submicroscopic cytogenetic abnormalities below the assay's detection limit.
