Test Requirements
Collect 24 hr urine AND serum samples. Record total urine volume (mL), weight (kg), and height (cm) of the patient. This test is NOT to be outsourced (perform in-house).
Clinical Utility
To evaluate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Test has largely been replaced by eGFR estimation based on serum creatinine or cystatin values. Incomplete collection or incorrect timing during collection affects result accuracy.
