Test Requirements
PATIENT PREPARATION/ POSTURE:
Patient should be upright/ ambulatory for at least 2 hours prior to sampling.
If patient is not ambulatory and a supine collection was done, this MUST be clearly stated on the request form
BLOOD COLLECTION: 3-5 mL EDTA plasma.
TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS
Shipping Temperature: Frozen
ANALYTE STABILITY
Frozen: 3 months at -20°C
HANDLING (EDTA PLASMA):
Keep chilled e.g. keep samples on ice slurry immediately after collection.
Centrifuge within 30 minutes to separate plasma.
Transfer EDTA plasma to a plastic vial without disturbing blood cells. Label properly with 2 patient identifiers and sample type i.e. EDTA plasma. FREEZE.
TRANSPORT AND STORAGE (EDTA PLASMA):
Freezing: Freeze EDTA plasma immediately at -20°C or lower.
Record relevant patient information on the TRF i.e. posture (MANDATORY i.e. supine vs upright), medications.
Clinical Utility
Diagnose and evaluate causes of secondary hypertension e.g. primary aldosteronism or renovascular hypertension.
