Test Requirements
1) Liaise with lab team for booking of direct clients
2) Name & contact details of the referring doctor must be available
3) Previous patient records & test results, imaging inclusive to be availed
4) Recent CBC, <=72 hours old needed (concurrent CBC can be obtained at time of the procedure; PBF examination will still be required unless recently performed at Scanlab).
5) Collect a concurrent serum sample since other tests are frequently required.
6) For <12-14 year olds, anaesthesia is required at additional cost (for young children, may have to be done as an inpatient procedure)
Includes sample collections for PBF and BM aspirate WITHOUT trephine biopsy or clot section. Clinical Utility
Variable e.g. assess unexplained cytopenias (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia), unexplained cytoses (polycythemia, leukocytosis, thrombocytosis), suspected malignancy or infiltration (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, metastatic disease), pyrexia of unknown origin, infectious diseases (e.g. leishmaniasis), B symptoms (unintentional weight loss, drenching night sweats, fever) etc.
