Test Requirements
For EACH alleged sibling: Passport photo, ID copy (birth certificate in case of minors) & signed consent form. Consent, passport photo and ID copy of a parent is mandatory where the alleged sibling is a minor. Not intended for medicolegal purposes which requires a court order.
EDTA whole blood sample of each person tested with appropriate labeling.
Clinical Utility
Testing the relationship between alleged siblings to assess if they are biologically related as siblings i.e. full siblings, half siblings or unrelated. Sibling tests can also be used to provide reliable parentage testing when one parent is deceased or unavailable. If parent(s) are available for testing, the DNA paternity or maternity test is preferred over the DNA sibling test. Adding a known parent’s DNA sample improves accuracy by eliminating genetic material from one side of the family.
