PSEUDOHYPERKALEMIA CAN ARISE FROM ERRORS DURING SAMPLE COLLECTION, DIFFICULT COLLECTIONS, SAMPLE MISHANDLING RESULTING IN HEMOLYSIS, MISREPRESENTATION OF EDTA PLASMA (INAPPROPRIATE SPECIMEN TYPE) AS SERUM & IN PATIENTS WITH MARKED LEUKOCYTOSIS. FOR THE LATTER, TESTING SHOULD BE DONE USING LITHIUM HEPARIN PLASMA.
