1) Exact age (date of birth) required for accurate interpretation.
2) History of transfusion (or no transfusion) within the last 3-4 months required.

Clinical Utility
Diagnosis of sickle cell trait and sickling disorders (sickle cell anemia/ sickle cell disease). Recent transfusion is a confounder therefore testing should be preferentially done on a pre-transfusion sample or >3-4 months post transfusion.
