A POSITIVE RESULT IS CONSISTENT WITH CURRENT/ RECENT HSV 1 INFECTION. IgM IS THE FIRST ANTIBODY PRODUCED BY THE IMMUNE SYSTEM IN RESPONSE TO INFECTION.
