Test Requirements

Serum in plain tube (red top) or SST tube (yellow top) or in a separation vial. Centrifuge tubes within 1 hour. Separate centrifuged serum in plain tubes within 1 hour. When the order simply states Troponin, select Troponin I (C1026) instead of Troponin T (C1027). Clinical Utility

Evaluate suspected myocardial infarction (heart attack)/ acute coronary syndrome. For this indication, troponin is considered superior to cardiac enzymes (CK-MB, LDH, AST).
