Test Requirements

SAMPLE TYPE: Variable i.e. a) Swabs (e.g. vaginal, endocervical, rectal); Use synthetic swabs to avoid PCR inhibitors i.e. nylon (flocked), dacron, or polyester-tipped swabs on a plastic or flexible shaft, depending on the sample site. Avoid cotton swabs, wooden shafts and calcium alginate tips. These materials can interfere with PCR, absorb DNA, or release inhibitors OR b) Cervical cells in liquid based cytology (LBC) vial e.g. ThinPrep® or SurePath® vials or other acceptable media etc. (refer to manufacturer's instructions if in doubt). Collected using a cytobrush or cervical broom OR c) First-void urine in sterile container CONTAINER/ PRESERVATIVE: Entire liquid based cytology (LBC) vial OR appropriate swab in transport tube OR urine in sterile container.

Clinical Utility

Detection of high risk HPV types associated with cervical cancer, precancerous lesions of the cervix and some cases of penile and anorectal cancer.
