Clinical Utility

Detects numerical & structural chromosomal abnormalities within the assay's limit of detection. Karyotyping blood helps diagnose genetic disorders (e.g. sex chromosome disorders, Down syndrome), assess developmental delays, evaluate causes of recurrent pregnancy loss and guide cancer treatment by identifying specific chromosomal abnormalities. This cytogenetic analysis is essential for understanding genetic contributions to diseases and providing targeted medical care, A normal result does not completely exclude genetic disorders e.g. single gene disorders, submicroscopic cytogenetic abnormalities below the assay's detection limit.
