Test Requirements

Serum in plain tube (red top) or SST tube (yellow top) or in a separation vial. Centrifuge tubes within 1 hour. Separate centrifuged serum in plain tubes within 1 hour. Fasting is NOT routinely required. However fasting lipid profile should be considered in the setting of high triglyceride values (>4.5-5mmol/L), suspected genetic lipid disorders, pancreatitis (ACC/ AHA/ EFLM guidelines) and will be done when this is EXPLICITLY stated by the ordering doctor/ clinician.
