Test Requirements

A variety of sample types may be submitted for this test e.g. 1 genital swab (endocervical, vaginal, urethral) or extragenital swab (e.g. conjunctival, throat/ pharyngeal, rectal) or at least 10mL FIRST MORNING or FIRST CATCH (first portion of urine) urine sample as indicated. Avoid urinating for at least 1 hour before urine sample collection. Manufacturer-approved NAAT/PCR swab transport tube (e.g., Aptima, Cobas, or equivalent) at room temperature, and special instructions are: Do not use cotton or calcium alginate swabs. Avoid contamination; follow kit-specific collection instructions. EXACT SAMPLE TYPE MUST BE SPECIFIED. Clinical Utility

Evaluates for gonorrhoea infection which may present as urethritis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), tubal pregnancy, infertility, newborn eye infection etc. It may also be asymptomatic.
