PLEURAL FLUID ANALYSIS, LIGHT’S CRITERIA

TWO concurrently obtained sample types are required i.e. serum AND pleural fluid. On each of the sample types, protein and LDH are analysed and the pleural fluid:serum ratios of each analyte calculated. Pleural fluid total protein values should not exceed serum values (fluid LDH may sometimes exceed serum LDH; however QC should be checked and sample/ result transposition excluded).
