Test Requirements

Serum in plain tube (red top) or SST tube (yellow top) or in a separation vial. Centrifuge tubes within 1 hour. Separate centrifuged serum in plain tubes within 1 hour. Test components: Immunoglobulin G (IgG), Immunoglobulin A (IgA), Immunoglobulin M (IgM), Kappa light chains, Lambda light chains.

Clinical Utility

Diagnose & monitor patients with monoclonal gammopathies e.g. multiple myeloma. Further characterize M bands (heavy chain, light chain) identified on serum or urine protein electrophoresis.
