Test Requirements

TEST ORDERING: Fill out test request form fully & legibly. CBC, concurrent PBF, referrer's contact information and detailed medical history are also required (bone marrow history form can be shared). Relevant history includes suspected diagnosis & any relevant investigation details (lab, imaging) as applicable. Specify the exact sample type(s) collected, anatomic site & laterality (e.g. left posterior superior iliac spine) and the fixative used. CONTAINER/ PRESERVATIVE Trephine biopsy in 10% neutral buffered formalin in a leak proof container OR if the biopsy is already processed, in formalin fixed paraffin embedded block (FFPE). Clinical Utility

Variable e.g. assess unexplained cytopenias (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia), unexplained cytoses (polycythemia, leukocytosis, thrombocytosis), suspected malignancy or infiltration (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, metastatic disease), pyrexia of unknown origin, infectious diseases (e.g. leishmaniasis), B symptoms (unintentional weight loss, drenching night sweats, fever) etc.
