Used by Doctors to learn more about a lesion or a mass, with either a fine needle aspiration (FNA) or core needle biopsy under image guidance to know/determine exactly where to place the needle. The procedure is performed by a radiologist.

Exam Requirements

Complete patient history with relevant lab investigations / results and or documents. Patient should not move during the procedure. Local sedation may be used. Informed consent is sought.

Instructions

Capture accurate patient information when reading request form to identify indications and contra-indications before the procedure/exam.

Method

Patient is placed on the ultrasound couch & ultrasound gel is applied on the region to be examined. A small transducer (probe) transmits high frequency sound waves through the gel into the body. Images are transmitted on the screen.
