A discipline of laboratory medicine that deals with the diagnosis/ management of disorders like
- Autoimmune diseases (e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus etc.)
- Immunodeficiency states.
- Allergic diseases.
- Transplants e.g. solid organ transplants, bone marrow transplantation.
Related tests include rheumatoid factor, anti cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP), anti-nuclear antibody (ANA), anti ds-DNA, IgE, allergen testing, CD4/8, HLA typing, HLA cross matching etc.
