Mammography

Screening mammography is a specific type of breast imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to detect cancer early – before women experience symptoms – when it is most treatable.

For females below age 35-ultrasonograhy of the breasts is commended unless there’s a suspicious pulpable lump/nodes and a positive family history of cancer of the breast, mammography is recommended.

For females between ages 40-69years, mammography is recommended once every year.

For females with a positive diagnosis of cancer of the breast, it is done annually for surveillance.

For females over 70 years, can do it once a year depending on the outcome of the previous mammogram results.

Studies indicate that 1,000 women who have undergone a mammogram every 2 years for about 20 years, 7 deaths are prevented.
