Microbiology / Parasitology
The microbiology department offers a wide variety of tests in bacteriology, parasitology, mycology and mycobacteriology to support clinicians’ needs for quality laboratory diagnosis of infections e.g.
- Routine examination of urine and stool
- Culture and pathogen identification using conventional techniques
- Antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) in accordance with international consensus criteria (e.g. CLSI, EUCAST criteria)
- Staining procedures e.g. KOH preparation, Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) stain for acid fast bacilli.
- Semen analysis – performed in accordance with WHO guidelines for semenalysis examination.
- Pregnancy testing in urine
- Stool antigen testing e.g. salmonella stool antigen, H. pylori antigen.
