TEST ORDERING: Specify method of collection i.e. whether urine is a midstream specimen of urine (MSSU), obtained by catheterization, via suprapubic aspirate or surgically. Test components: Pathogen isolation, identification & reporting of appropriate Antibiotics as applicable PATIENT PREPARATION: Give instructions for collection of clean catch, midstream urine prior to collection. Instructions are available as laminated aids/ in the lab handbook/ in this Youtube Video. SAMPLE/ CONTAINER/ PRESERVATIVE: 20mL, sterile, leak proof container. OTHER INSTRUCTIONS: Samples containing boric acid preservative are inappropriate for dipstick examination.
