A set of 3-4 SPECIAL TUBES is required [nil control/ TB antigen(s)/ mitogen control tubes; PREFERRED; contact lab]; if special tube set is unavailable, collection can be done in lithium heparin (green top) vacutainer (6mL MINIMUM) then later transferred to special set within 16 hours of collection. Transport/ handle the special tube set at room temperature (17-27℃; do not centrifuge or refrigerate). Heparin whole blood samples (where applicable) must be refrigerated. Promptly deliver to the lab. Components: Control results (nil tube, mitogen tube), TB antigen result/s and an overall interpretation.

Clinical Utility

Evaluates exposure to Mycobacterium tuberculosis by measuring the immune response to specific TB antigens. Assessment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI).

Allow to clot at 37 degrees C in a waterbath/ incubator then centrifuge within 1 hour of collection, separate and label aliquot tube (sample type inclusive). SAMPLE MUST NOT BE REFRIGERATED UNTIL SERUM IS SEPARATED. AFTER SERUM IS SEPARATED, REFRIGERATE THE SAMPLE.
